Getting my feet wet in the Sydney golf scene. Barely scratched the surface but still had fun. Made it out to three courses during my week in Australia’s largest city.
Sydney – Travel
No golf in this one. My first week in Australia: walking around, getting adjusted to driving on the other side of the road and other things that take me out of my element.
Welcome to the OzBlog
After three months of planning, e-mailing private golf courses, booking hotel reservations and locking in Airbnbs, the time has finally come.

Guacalito de la Isla, Nicaragua
Having made a number of trips down to this portion of the world before I knew what to expect: tranquil scenes of tropical paradise, dense and lush swaths of immaculate rain forest. But hidden under the verdure reaches of the flora, in a nondescript valley, is what many consider the best course in the Central American country.
Massachusetts
When one of my good friends decided to have his wedding at the tip of Cape Cod, I figured it would be a great opportunity to check out the golf scene. Having traveled there once already to play a couple rounds, I took what I had learned, played the great courses I had already been on, and added a couple new ones to the quiver as well.
South Orange County, CA
Returning to my roots I head back to Southern California, where I grew up, to sneak in a few rounds at some of Orange County’s premier golfing hot spots – Including Talega Golf Club in San Clemente and Pelican Hill Golf Club in Newport Beach. With ocean views at many courses, and a cool sea-breeze blowing in on the tide, I take a look at the real O.C.
Telluride, Colorado
Tucked away in the Southwest corner of the state, deep in the San Juan Mountains, is this mecca of winter and summertime sports. It is also home to the renowned Telluride Bluegrass Festival and one of the state’s best mountain golf courses.
Mayakoba, Mexico
Golf was not the only reason for my visit to this high-ranking course that is frequented by the PGA each year; The band Phish was playing a 3 day concert down the road. But, as long as I was within a wedge of the course, I had to hop on while I was there.
Bandon Dunes, Oregon
Head to the Oregon Coast to stake out the highly popular, but difficult to reach Bandon Dunes Resort, near Coos Bay. Played three different courses during the weekend on their version of European links golf and not disappointment with this American version of a classic.
New York City
During a long weekend in Manhattan, I trudge my way to a different borough each day to play rounds on a self-guided tour of the city’s golf scene.
