Before I turned my sights on becoming a master of golf literature, I spent some time in the trenches of the restaurant industry, working back of the house in hot kitchens in Italy, Uruguay and back home in Denver. It wasn’t always the most fun but I was able to walk away with some amazing stories, including the following.

Super Bowl Hustle
It was a quiet Wednseday night and the Super Bowl was the last thing on my mind until a good friend from Boston phoned me up and asked if I wanted to go to Atlanta to see the game in person? Of course I did.
Tazegzout Bay, Morocco
What started out as a surfing trip turned quickly into a golf trip once I found myself within a few kilometers of a stellar, unknown links course in Southwest Morocco. Not as green as its UK cousins, this memorable course was just one of the many things I discovered in North Africa.
Scottsdale, Arizona
With snowstorms passing through and wintertime temperatures hovering in the 20s and 30s for two months, it was time for me to fly the coop and play some golf. And what better place to shed some layers of clothing than the Arizona desert?
Cook Inlet, Alaska
I was fortunate enough to make it to Southern Alaska at the end of the August for a trip with some of my family – The last great gasp of a summer filled with more Fly Fishing than golfing, which would be a first for me. From those weeks spent up in the Great North, I was able to come up with these two original pieces: One true story and a piece of fiction, both of them about 5oo words.
King’s Landing (Non-Fiction) – Add a Helicopter and everything is more fun.
The Iditarod Man (Fiction) – Cold, tired; He trudges on through the snow.
Thermopolis, Wyoming
It’s not all crooked stick here at the WBG. Occasionally, I do things other than golf. Like Fly Fishing. And what better river to be fishing on than the Wind River, in Western Wyoming? Starting off with a tricky Day #1, this was my three days in the Wind River Canyon.
My Zirdle Runneth Over (Light – No specific fishing details)
The Indian-Pacific Express
Of the three train trips that I took during my month of travel in Australia, the India-Pacific was the penultimate. 2 days aboard for this 2,669 km ride from Adelaide to Perth in Western Australia through the middle of the Australian Outback. Surely one of the great train journeys still available today.
Royal Adelaide Golf Club
The pride of South Australian Golf and one of the Top 10 tracks in the country. A different look for Links Golf, but a thoroughly satisfying one. Flat, windy, abound in pot bunkers, but with some uniquely Adelaidean touches to it.
Mornington Peninsula – Golf
A hefty analysis of three of the courses out on the Mornington Peninsula, played during a long weekend there. The Dunes Golf Course, St. Andrew’s Beach and both of Moonah Link’s stunners. One of the top golf destinations I’ve visited.
XPT Train from Sydney to Melbourne
My first of three long train rides I’d be taking while on my way around Australia for the month. Most people take a flight between the two cities, but what’s the fun in that?
